As a bulimic child and young adult, I struggled with food and body image issues my entire life, but I eventually came to the realization that it was about control, for me… trying to control my emotions with food and my life by being thin (as if!).
After I had two children, the weight came off fairly easily, except for those last ten to 15 pounds. I wasn’t acting out my bulimia, but I realize now that I was still dealing with daily stresses by either eating or not eating, depending on how I felt emotionally. I had no consistent exercise program or eating plan, and I was in denial about why I couldn’t lose the weight. The “last” ten or 15 pounds may not sound like much, but I feel like they’re the hardest to lose, and to keep off, especially at 52 years old.
I found out about MBT when I started reading the book
Better Than Before
. I researched the program right away and discovered that it was exactly what I needed: a mechanism to become accountable and motivation to commit to consistency.
At first I wasn’t sure if I could keep up with the daily logging, but once I got into a routine, it became part of my day and really didn’t take a lot of time. It was harder to commit to my tutor (the most fantastic, helpful, loving, smart coach you’ll ever have) that I would exercise as much as I needed to, but we started out small and worked towards bigger goals every week.
My tutor talked me through so many situations, she really kept me on track, and whenever I had some kind of “slip,” she turned it into a learning tool and I never felt like giving up. The best part about MBT is that you feel supported and capable of reaching your goals.
I lost more than my initial goal of ten pounds (I lost 14) and now have a completely new approach to my body and my life. I can eat what’s best for me in any situation, have a treat and not freak out over it, I love to exercise and see what my body can do, and I can get through my day without using food or thinness as a distraction or way to cope.
I also stay on track by reading Adam’s emails because I can relate to what he talks about; he knows how to address many, many situations in life, whether your goal is better health or just a better, happier life.
MBT is about being “real,” in that you’re working with an actual person, one on one, who gets to know you and care about you, yet you never have to leave your house. You’re not “shamed,” because of your behavior; you’re supported and guided. In my opinion, it’s perfectly affordable when you break down how much feedback you get every day! And knowing I can use the program, for free, as I maintain my new body and habits, really makes MBT different from anything else I’ve ever tried.
If it weren’t for MBT and Adam and my tutor, I’d still be struggling through each day, wondering why nothing was working for me. Now I have no problem keeping my weight off, I have reached my fitness goals (and am always setting new ones), and I couldn’t recommend MBT to anyone more strongly!
P.S. I wish I had a before picture for you but there just isn’t one in existence! Women don’t tend to keep pictures of themselves if they think they look heavy in them! LOL. I’m sorry.

It's fascinating when we start to notice our own behavior. Typically, we distance ourselves from that person. We find something they have that we don't. We make them into something other than an ordinary, regular person. Then, we create an excuse for why we can't achieve the same level of success.
The most important thing to realize: Whatever anyone else has done or become, you can do or become as well, with the right support, guidance and accountability.
